Astronomers have discovered
yet another mysterious, uber-powerful, repeating radio burst
What sets fast radio bursts
(FRBs) — unusual pulses of radio signals emanating from deep space that have puzzled astronomers
In fact, the average FRB
releases as much energy in around a millisecond as the Sun puts out in three days
This latest mysterious radio burst
named FRB 190520B was first detected in 2019 by a team of astronomers using China's Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST).
Ever since, the team
has been trying to pinpoint where the signal came from.
The scientists were able to
trace back the signal to the vicinity of a dwarf galaxy roughly three billion light years away.
